Learn How To Macrame

I’m looking at this tutorial and I remember I used to do macrame in the 70’s mostly but I haven’t really since then except for bracelets. I used to do some pretty complicated stuff. I even did owls! Planters were a big hit too but when the Philippines got hold of it that was all she wrote. There was no way I could compete with their prices πŸ™‚

I thought maybe some other crafters might see this post and take a knack to learning how to macrame. So here it is, Stonebrash Creative Arts, a website I found that teaches more than the basics. It’s easy to follow and there are pictures too πŸ™‚ I Love pictures with tutorials!

Aging And Stenciling Wood Signs

When my husband and I lived in Louisiana in the 1978ish time, we bought a house in Shreveport. It was a corner lot, fenced in house. We had a large kitchen, a large yard, a large den, and 2 bathrooms. I was in Love with my house, and we bought it for $17,850.00. I can just imagine what it’s worth now.

Back then I was really into home decor. Every holiday I would decorate, make my own wreaths, candle holders, just all kinds of crafts.

I didn’t age signs but I used to age our furniture. I remember some of the steps. I would first paint the wood then put a coat of paint thinner to make it crackle, then sand it then coat it with a clear covering. It always turned out so primitive although at the time I didn’t know about primitive crafting.

I also used to macrame shelves for my husbands co-workers and the wood that I would use I always did that aging process.

So needless to say I absolutely adore these signs and Americanprim Primitive How To’s has graciously posted a step by step tutorial on how to make these aged signs. It’s good fun, makes wonderful gifts, or keep for yourself πŸ™‚

Mother’s Day Gift Craft Idea: PVC Pipe Planter

I Love finding fun and new ways to house plants. Here’s one I found using PVC pipe. It’s a great idea and supposedly you can get the PVC with holes already in them. I don’t know I rarely shop for things like this but I definitely wanna shop and look for this.Β

My oldest daughter works at MarMac Ace Hardware here in Kahului, Maui so I’ll ask her to check on it for me πŸ™‚

I think it’s a beautiful way to display plants and wondering how it would do with herbs πŸ™‚

This is the URL for the website I got this idea from. You can get the tutorial from there:Β http://www.thegreenhead.com/2012/02/flower-tower-freestanding-planter.php

Fat Albert Halloween

Does anyone remember watching Fat Albert? Wasn’t it popular in the 1970s or so? I remember I was a graduated from high school and my brother-in-law then about 7 years in 1973 around there always watched this.

I Love Bill Cosby! I listened to him since I was 6 years old. Good clean comedy!

Stencil Decorated Shower Curtain

I remember once long ago I saw this craft in a magazine, painting a design on a shower curtain. I liked it so much that I went out and bought a clear shower curtain and paint. The design was free hand swirls. I thought it was so pretty. I had even planned, in my mind, to buy clear bathroom accessories to paint the same design as my shower curtain. But, I never did it but I never forgot the craft either.

Here is a shower curtain that is painted using a stencil for the design.Β

I found this tutorial at HomeGoods. Here is the link to the tutorial:Β http://www.homegoods.com/blog/2011/08/28/stencil-or-stamp-a-shower-curtain/

Mother’s Day Craft Gift Idea: Altoids Garden In A Tin

Do you eat Altoids and like the can but don’t know what to do with it so you just throw it away? I don’t but I have a brother who always ate Altoids. However, he’s now living in California so I’ll have to find someone else who loves to eat Altoids.

Β

Here is a great idea to recycle those empty Altoid tins. It’s cute and you can make up several to put in a gift basket along with gardening gloves and tools for a mom or grandma who loves to garden πŸ™‚

I wonder how these Altoid tins would do if covered front and back with some pretty design and used as a jewel gift box?
